When you go matters as much as where

Your deductible status can cut your bill in half.

Before vs. After Your Deductible

Before you meet your annual deductible, you pay the full negotiated rate for most services. After you meet it, you pay only your copay or coinsurance — typically 10-30% of the cost.

The difference can be 50-100%. The same procedure at the same hospital costs dramatically less once your deductible is met.

Example: Knee MRI

Pre-deductible

$2,800

Post-deductible

$400

Same MRI, same hospital — $2,400 difference based on timing alone.

How to Use This

Check your insurance portal or call your insurer to see how much of your deductible you've met

If you're close to meeting it, consider scheduling planned procedures later in the year

If you've already met your deductible, now is the best time for any procedures you've been putting off

Deductibles reset January 1 for most plans — plan accordingly
